Hi, I’m Nell.
Welcome to Junque Therapy! Grab a cup of coffee and escape with me as I talk about my passion for all things thrifty, vintage, and repurposed. I am a DIY fanatic and love, no … that is LOVE … finding great deals on vintage items and repainting, repurposing, and decorating on the cheap. My husband calls it the “affliction”.
About 15 years ago I was just beginning to turn my antiquing and thrifting habit into an income and was attending my first auction to buy items for my resale store. I was the “new kid” and very interested in watching all the people, that were obviously much more experienced than I, bid on items. I watched an older couple buy item after item, and mixed lot after mixed lot. They loaded a truck and flat bed trailer full of all kinds of furniture, yard items, small items, just all kinds of things. I finally introduced myself and we were visiting so I asked them if they had a resale store. ” No Miss” the gentleman said ” What we have is an affliction.”
I will always remember that because “affliction” just seems so accurate to describe the way this business gets into your blood and WILL NOT BE DENIED. I have had several full time jobs through the years. I opened a small business that has nothing to do with decorating or resale, and it is very successful, I am a sales rep for a chemical and paper company on top of that, and it all pays the bills . What it doesn’t do is feed my soul, It doesn’t feed this need to be creative and express my true self. It doesn’t make my heart go pitter patter… like an old dresser, with great bones and a bad finish, found on the cheap at a yard sale, and then repainted with a great color chalk paint, distressed and made into something beautiful again. And that, dear friends, is how Junque Therapy came to be … from the need to continue to be creative, to connect with others that share my love of old vintage things, and simple honest lifestyles. To, as one blogger I follow, put it,” find my people”.
I hope you will follow my blog as it grows up … I will publish pieces that I am working on, pictures of great shops in my area that are like eye candy for us vintage design people, videos on how to projects, and stories from my crazy busy life that I think will amuse or inspire.
So please, come have coffee with me and escape for awhile and hopefully I will inspire you to try your own projects and feed your own creative soul, no matter how busy real life gets. Because everything else “just pays the bills”.
